We were on the roadtrip from SF to LA and I found this place in Yelp. After reading all the reviews so we gave it a try. This turns out to be one of the best stop we had along the way. I ordered Pull pork sandwich and my husband had a Tri tip sandwich. They both were really juicy, rich in taste and the BREAD is a bomb! I would say the bread is a key that mix everything taste even better.
Their food is super awesome but still not as great as the owner. I guess he noticed us in the restaurant and we looked different from the locals so he walked straight to us and asked how we were doing, where we were heading and if we were in a hurry. And then he brought us sample so we could try and understand their food culture and stuffs. We will definitely come back and dine here again if we get to drive this route. -

Loved the choice of inside or outside seating. The staff brought our counter service order out to us. The table could have been a little cleaner.
The food was good old fashioned Mexican and they also had great bbq. This is fun place to stop if you are traveling with limited time. -

Rancho Nipomo is central coast barbeque meets Mexican cuisine. I have only tried their smoked tritip sandwich, but it left such an impression, it warrants a five star rating.
The tritip is tender, packed with flavors from the oak fire that it was cooked in, and thinly sliced. Half a pound lies inside torta bread, an unexpected yet welcomed Mexican influence. This bread has a thin crispy crust, is semi flat, and has a soft interior.
By a small request, my sandwich was served with both french dip and barbeque sauce on the side. The barbeque sauce was pleasant; it was slightly sweet and tangy. There was a subtly to it that did not overwhelm like so many other sauces.
The pairing of the french dip and the torta is a match made in heaven. My suggestion is to dip often and dip liberally. The bread soaks it up like a sponge, yet the crust remains crispy, leaving an enjoyable group of textures, but most importantly the result is a flavorful explosion. -

This was our first visit to the Rancho Nipomo and we wish we had visited sooner. Guests order at the counter and then sit in the smaller cantina area, the larger bar area, or on the patio. As it was our first time, the server suggested we grab menus and have a seat so we didn't feel pressured to pick something right away. There are so many delicious sounding items, I'm glad we took the time to explore the menu. We ended up getting the Californian Enchiladas (chicken and verde sauce) and the chili verde burrito (wet, with cheese). Both items were fantastic. The pulled pork in the burrito was flavorful and perfectly tender. The chicken was tasty and the sauce was the perfect level of kick. The enchiladas came with rice and beans which were good, but average. The portions of the entree items were so large we each took half of our meal home with us for lunch tomorrow.

Order at the counter, and a server will bring your food to your table. Nice place to hang out with friends and/or family over BBQ or a burger with beer or soda or...
For the most part, our party found the food to be mediocre. The Tri Tip Sandwich was a huge round bun with about 3 slices of tri tip and some BBQ sauce, and it just looked so sad. My friend ate one half and tossed the rest away.
The BBQ Chicken was not truly BBQ'ed at all. Chicken was rubbed with what seems to be a chipotle seasoning rub, cooked on a rotisserie, and finished off on a flame grill, just long enough to give the chicken some grill marks and a hint of that BBQ smoky flavor.
I had the street tacos, which were fine, especially after I topped them with diced raw onions, chopped cilantro, pico de gallo and one of 4 salsas available (from mild on the left of the sauce counter to spiciest on the right).
And while the baby back ribs combination platter had plenty of food for 3 to share, the ribs were overcooked, ended up being a bit dry.
